Passive Water Harvesting
Passive water harvesting is the process of putting into place design elements that not only add to the aesthetics of a landscape, but also perform a vital function. A dry-basin swale can catch rain water and direct it to specific locations in your landscape, such as trees that require deep watering. A retention basin can also be a catch for water, preventing flooding in other areas and directing water to those spots that are more in need of water. A retention basin is a wonderful place to throw some wildflower seeds in the fall. Then wait and watch when they bloom in profusion in the sprint.
